Passed July 21st, 2022
Born May 5, 1931
John Robert Rovegno Jr. (lovingly called Papa John) was called home on Thursday July 21st, 2022, at 91 years of age.
Papa John was born to John Robert Rovegno Sr. and Hildur Alvilda Nedraas Rovegno on May 5th, 1931, in San Francisco, California. As a boy and young man, he attended St. Dominic’s Catholic School, was an Eagle Sea Scout, eventually becoming Commodore, loved tinkering with his ’34 Ford Convertible, had a beautiful tenor voice and played the accordion. He served two years in the army at the Presidio in San Francisco, after which his Father bought him and his brother Ron a gas station “to keep them out of trouble”, where he loved working on cars and taking care of people.
John married his first wife, Rosemarie Campana, on 11/10/1956. They had 5 children together. Bernadette (Bunny), Johnny, Jeffrey, Lisa & Joseph. Most of their married life was spent living on Sierra Rd in San Jose, CA.
John Married his second Wife, Rosella Lucas, on 1/1/1975. They lived many years in various locations in the San Francisco Bay Area and spent their later years living comfortably in Roseville CA. They had no children together but shared a love for Dachshunds and spoiled many “Ginos” over the years.
John was a devout Catholic who sang in the church Choir, loved sailing, was well known at the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, and would crew for anyone who’d have him. Papa John had a heart of gold and was known for his kindness, sense of humor and charm. And oh yeah, he could dance like nobody’s business!
John was a Master Draftsman with elegant handwriting. He was in the Fire Sprinkler industry and owned Full Service Fire Protection in Burlingame for many years before joining the team at Mr. Sprinkler Fire Protection in Roseville.
Papa John joins his father (John), mother (Hildur), brother (Ron) and second wife (Rosella) in Heaven and is survived by his first wife Rosemarie, their 5 Children, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A Psalm of David.
The LORD is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD
Forever.
