When I moved back to Oregon from Arkansas and started school, I met John at a “Crew” keg softball game. He was immediately welcoming to me and made me feel like I would fit in, something that hadn’t been easy for me because of moving. We had lots of good times together over those years, usually in a group, but he and I had a couple Ems games together, and once after my dads illness, he took the time to check in with me and talk about things. Whenever I imagine John’s face, I can see that head tilted up, a kind of mix of bemused curiosity and good humor, ready to laugh or make you laugh.

John was like a cooler older cousin to me. He was always there at my big life events to flash a smile, give me a hard time and make us both laugh, He and Susie helped me in countless ways. John was the greatest combination of Peter Pan, Captain Hook and somewhere deep down in there, John Boy, that I’ve ever met. His curiosity, intelligence and exuberance made life better for those around him. I hope his soul is loving whatever new adventure he now finds himself in, He will always be loved.

John's not in it (though he was there), but I had to add it because it's one of my favorite pictures!
