Born on December 29, 1962, in Alexandria, Virginia, to John and Irene Prendergast, Jay lived a life full of energy, joy, and connection. A proud alumnus of the University of Virginia, he was a passionate supporter of UVA athletics and never missed an opportunity to cheer on his teams. For many years, Jay shared his love of music with the Hampton Roads community as a DJ on the popular "Jimmy Ray and Jay Show," where his infectious personality and quick wit made him a beloved figure on the airwaves. Jay was also known for his long walks, where he reveled in the simple pleasure of enjoying the beauty of the world around him.
Jay was preceded in death by his father, John; his mother, Irene; and his beloved step-sister, Cathy. He is survived by his children, Kenleigh, Larkin, Declan, and Haidyn; his cherished grandchildren, Madeline and Sophie; his siblings, Mary, Katie, Patrick, and Ellen; his step-mother, Ellen; his step-sister, Linda; and his ex-wife, Heather, the mother of his children, with whom he shared many years and memories.
A man of great humor, pride, and passion, Jay was known for his laugh and the love he had for his family. He took great pride in his children’s accomplishments and spoke of them often. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, warmth, and a zest for life that will be missed by all who knew him.
