John's obituary
John Paul Stoddard passed away peacefully on the night of March 30, 2026. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran and the beloved chef of the Phi Chi Zeta fraternity in Galveston. For the past seven years, John curated meals from a wide range of cuisines and took every request to heart.
He is survived by his sisters, Michelle Stoddard and Jacquetta Stoddard; his niece, Alexandra Gardner; and his great-niece, Lila Gardner.
To us, Chef John Paul became a staple of Phi Chi and part of the very essence of our home. We knew he would always be there, whether for a conversation or a meal and had the privilege of celebrating birthdays and holidays with him. He embraced our traditions and activities, playing a central role in our sense of community. He loved and cherished the members of Phi Chi as if we were his own children and cared for the house as if it were his own. We would often return to find the entrance lighting fixed or new plates and utensils he had thoughtfully gifted. He tended to the garden, kept us company, and always brought a smile to our faces.
His presence will be deeply and forever missed.
