John's obituary
John Norton, 84, of St. Petersburg, Fl gained his wings after passing away peacefully at home on April 17,2024 after a year long battle with cancer.
John was born on Sept. 19th 1939 to Edward and Mearl Norton in Gardiner, Me. After graduating from Brunswick High School he went on to get his college degree in photography at RIT in Rochester NY. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in photography and an associate’s degree in applied science he worked for many years for the state of Maine taking photos of fun tourist spots, and making travel brochures and go all over New England advertising for the state of Maine at different tourist shows.
In his 30s he met and married Virginia “Sue” Cottle. He adopted her 4 children Bill, Bobby, Jill, and Julie and then shared a daughter with Sue named Candace. He would go on to open his own photography studio in Augusta Maine and ran the studio for several years with his daughter Jill.
John was very well traveled and has lived in several different states, but one of his favorites was Kansas where he worked as the photo lab manager at Walmart for over 15 yrs and met his lifelong friend/roommate Kevin Davis. John and Kevin and there beagle- chihuahua mix dog Tristan moved to St. Petersburg where they settled down since 2011.
John is predeceased by his father Edward Norton, his mother Mearl Allen Norton, his daughter Jill Robards, his son in law Jeffrey Robards. He’s is survived by his sisters Jill Weeks and Beth Leavitt, Best friend Kevin Davis, Granddaughter Heather Cormier and her husband Chris Cormier, great grandkids Logen St.Amand and Brody Cormier, 2 sons Bill Norton and Robert Norton, 2 daughters Julie Norton and Candace Hubert, several other grandchildren and great grandchildren, lifelong best friends John and Sharon Merryman, and many many more friends he’s met in all his travels. There will not be a funeral as requested by John.
