Words cannot convey how much of an impact Mr. Nix made on me.
On the eve of graduation Mr. Nix came up to me and asked me if he could give my diploma first. It was a honor to receive it, as this was his last year as an educator.
I took every advantage to learn from Mr. Nix in his last year teaching. I ate lunch and jammed for a hour after school Monday-Friday. He taught me so much about the world such as; compassion, world economics, and how the shitty people deserve to “pound salt”.
Mr. Nix was the first person in my life that told me I was going to influence many one day. That I should be a teacher, and pushed me to do that long after I left college. Well 16 years later, that statement became true. I will always remember your teachings and pass that onto the future generation. I will miss the way you answered my phone calls, and know you were grinning after a smart ass joke.
Rest in peace John.

I have many memories of John. My number one memory is the day I transferred into San Lorenzo High School as a sophomore. I do believe John was also transferring in. He rounded the corner of the science lab carrying a load of books and entered Biology. He was a tall, skinny kid then. We became friends later. My last memory of John was at another of our friends service just a few years ago who had passed away. It was at the reception, Pleasanton Hotel, John walked up to the table and said, "I want to say how lucky I've been to have so many good friends." John had a sort of sarcastic humor at times, but this wasn't sarcastic. It was absolutely sincere. I won't forget it. And I will not forget John.

Gary and I send our condolences to Joanne and the family. It was my pleasure to share many interesting conversations that ranged across many topics while working at FHS together.
He leaves a terrific legacy for Joanne, Tyler, Connor and all who were richer by being touched by his love for life and learning.

I had the pleasure of having Mr. Nix as a freshman basketball coach at Dublin High in 1974/75. He did a wonderful job of teaching and inspiring a group of 14 year old boys to work together and be better than we thought we could be. As we approach the 50th year anniversary of that team, he is remembered fondly by each of us who played for him. May "Coach" rest in peace. Ben Johansen - Dublin High

My prayers are with his family and the community! We lost a wonderful teacher and human being. I was lucky enough to witness him in action multiple times. He always treated us like adults and offered advice and encouragement when it was needed most. So many wonderful stories and memories from his class. I will never forget him!

Praying for the entire family and his friends during this very difficult time. Mr. Nix was such a blessing in my life and was honored to be in his class in high school. Always someone you could talk to if it was a good or bad day. A true mentor with such a passion for instilling hope and education with anyone he came in contact with. God Bless.

I count Mr. Nix among the best teachers I've ever had - he had a profound effect on my curiosity about the world and the ways that I relate to it. It always felt like his classroom was alive and energized, and that came directly from him. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to learn from him. Condolences to all.

Mr. Nix was an amazing person who impacted my life as a teenager in amazingly positive ways. Will never forget wonderful memories growing up around him. Things like going to a baseball game with him and Tyler at Camden Yards while on our Civics trip to DC in high school.
God bless you guys and I am so sorry for your loss.

Mr. Nix was one of my favorite teachers at Foothill. I frequently ate lunch in his classroom and enjoyed his company. Such a kind and all around wonderful human! So sorry to hear this news, my deepest sympathies to the Nix family.

Both Steve and I were students of Mr Nix, at Dublin and Foothill, as well as our 3 daughters. He was always engaging as a teacher and kind as a mentor. We send our deepest condolences, peace and love to the Nix family.

Mr. Nix was a wonderful teacher, I adored him (as did all of my classmates). He kept it real with us and was very passionate about the topic (Civics). I'll never forget how on my 18th birthday he handed me a voter registration card and told me to put the learnings into action. I'm grateful that he generously devoted so much of his life to students like me, we are all better for having had him.

By far one of my favorite teachers!! (Foothill HS '87) As someone who didn't do well in school his humor kept the attention of not only me but all his students. It's true he was more like a friend. ♥ Sending condolences to his entire family. Thankful to have known him.
