John Neugent Obituary
San Luis Obispo, CA
John Neugent, 76, was born October 19, 1948, on Fishers Island, NY. He died unexpectedly at home in San Luis Obispo, on March 23, 2025. John was the son of Irene Ravenelle Neugent and Harry Neugent.
Beloved and revered by many, John is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Neugent, and husband, Garrett, two brothers Bill [Jill] Neugent, Bob [Kathy] Neugent, and best friend, Joan Henry, along with many nieces and nephews and numerous cousins, living in the Westerly/Pawcatuck, R.I. area.
John's many years working and owning businesses in the bike industry were a labor of love, or…as he put it, “If you love your work, it isn't work.”
In the 70's John was a partner with his friend, Scott, in a Sunshine Cycle Shop in Willimantic, CT; in the 80’s he was Sales Manager, Product Manager, and VP of Marketing for Service Cycle, then President of Sachs US Division. John traveled all over the world, was highly respected in the bike industry, and his name in the bike community grew. He was hired by Lee Iacocca in 1997 to assist with an e-bike startup. In 2002 he started his own business, Neuvation Cycling, an online high-end bike and wheel business. He has been called a brilliant icon of the cycling industry and was genuinely respected by his customers and business associates. John had extensive experience in sales and customer service, purchasing, importing, marketing, design, wheel building, and regularly wrote a popular newsletter. When you’re The Man, you need to do it all.
While Neugent Cycling was a labor of love, creating elaborate and delectable cuisine for family and friends gave John tremendous joy. He had specific tastes and believed butter could fix almost anything. John enjoyed the peace and quiet of long walks on the coastline with Joan and taking photos of elusive birds. He loved singing while playing the guitar or banjo, painting, birding, Kathryn, his brothers and their wives, Joan, and their families.
John Neugent was a bright, generous, kind, and easygoing presence, He will be missed immeasurably by his family, friends, and business associates alike. Rest in peace, dear John.
