John was a true and dear friend. After I left home for the Air Force he was eventually transferred from the Philippines to my station in California. We grew even closer as he invited me into his family while we were all far from home. Christmases and other significant holidays were all more special again as we celebrated them as a family together. His family became my family. We were inseparable and went everywhere together... joined at the hip as some might say. Jimbo mentioned he was a natural athlete. That continued after high school. He and I played softball in leagues and many tournaments together and he was still very gifted. He was a real Babe Ruth. He could really play the game, in the field and especially at the plate, and was fast as a gazelle. We spent many hours in the Yosemite mountains, our favorite place on earth at the time. I have so many fond memories of that time. Shae, I shared those with you the other day on the phone. I am missing you today my friend and brother, more than I can put into words. You made a profound impact on my life my friend, and I love you like my brother. I truly regret we lost touch over the years. But, you were always on my mind and will forever be in my heart. I am happy you are at peace. We will hook up again some day.

Johnny was one those natural athletes that was gifted. From our little league days winning the championship back to back and going to see Stros as a reward But, standing in the box with him and Trey learning curve and other pitches was nerve racking....lol. He definitely took care of family and friends didn't get hazed to hard as freshman thanks to him. And later made my first trip to Cal and SF so memorable while station in Air Force with Charlie Callaway.

I played ball (all kinds) with Johnny from the time he was 11 through his time in high school at APHS. We were close teammates and went through a lot of great times. Johnny was a very gifted athlete and quite the competitor. Knew all of his immediate family. Lost track of Johnny when I went off to college and working. Still think of him often. I hope he went peaceful. Hard to give up old friends. I'm very sorry for your loss.
