John's obituary

John (“Jack”) Midgley McCullough passed away on July 14, 2020 at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD following complications from congestive heart failure.

John is survived by his daughter, Whitney Cherry, her husband Trey and their two children Noah and Caroline of Richmond, VA; two brothers Kenneth McCullough of Winona, MN and James McCullough of Beltsville, MD, two sisters Georgie Stone of State Road, NC and Claire McCullough of Cary, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. John is also survived by his two closest friends, Bob Cuthbertson and Bill Hubbard. John’s family wishes to thank Bob and Bill for the vital role they played in John’s life and for their increasing support in recent months.

John was born on February 23, 1950 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada to Robert E. McCullough and Barbara M. McCullough. He graduated from The University of Maryland in 1978 with B.A. in Urban Planning & Policy Analysis. John spent his early working years managing various urban planning projects around the world, followed by a transition into managing the start-up and operations for various commercial driver’s license training programs in the mid-Atlantic and Southeast. More recently John served as interim President for several middle-market for-profit education firms. John was a highly-intelligent and independent personality. He loved music from the 50s and 60s, researching family genealogy, and a good debate.

Later in life, John reconnected with and married Christine Devisser, who passed away in June 2019. John and Chris were together for over 20 years and resided in Bethesda, MD.

John wished for his body to be donated to the Anatomical Gift Program at the Uniformed Services of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. A memorial will be scheduled at a later date. Donations can be made in his honor to the American Heart Association.
