John's obituary

John Gregory Matt, born April 30, 1964, passed away on February 14, 2026, in St. Louis, MO, surrounded by his family.

He will be remembered for his love of family and the outdoors, his many friendships, strong work ethic and selflessness, and the many memories he created with those closest to him.

More than anything, John loved his family. He was a proud father and grandfather who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was especially close with his mother, Carole Matt, and treasured the time they spent together. In recent years, he enjoyed building a life with his partner, Angie Akerman, and spending time with her son, Owen, creating many meaningful memories together. Whether sharing stories or simply enjoying time together, those moments with his family meant the most to him.

John loved being outdoors. Whether he was fishing, hunting, or spending time at the lake, he was happiest enjoying life with friends and family. The lake was one of his favorite places, where many good times, stories, and lasting memories were shared.

John spent 39 years as a proud member of IBEW Local 1, dedicating his career to the electrical trade. Over the years, he worked for both Sachs Electric and Kaiser Electric, retiring from Kaiser Electric in 2025. He took great pride in his work and in being part of the union, and he valued the friendships he built throughout his career.

He is survived by his mother Carole Matt; his daughter Whitney Jones, her husband Andy Jones, and their children Brady and Hudson Jones; his son Corey Matt, his wife Alex, and their children Harper, Riley, and Carter Matt; and his partner Angie Akerman and her son Owen.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ron Matt.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Most Sacred Heart Church in Eureka, Missouri, with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m.

John will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. If you ever find yourself at the lake with a fishing pole and a cold beer, take a moment to think of John.
