Skip's obituary
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of John "Skip" Manning Jr., affectionately known to friends and family as Skip. Born on April 16, 1948, Skip lived a vibrant life filled with stories until his passing on June 22, 2025.
Skip was known for his quick wit and his deep love for storytelling, always lighting up the room with tales from his rich life experience. His endearing charm and lively spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Skip is now at peace with his parents, his beloved first and second wives, a cherished granddaughter, and a loved grandson. He leaves behind a legacy filled with warmth and humor, carried forward by his sister, his two devoted daughters including Shanon Travis, his loyal son, a stepson, and many treasured grandchildren who survive him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Skip at Heritage Park on August 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Family, friends, and all others touched by Skip's vibrant life are welcomed to share in this commemoration of a life truly well-lived. Following this, a solemn Funeral Service will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery on August 4, 2025, at 12:30 PM. Details for this are: we will meet with the Freedom Ridersat 11:00 AM at Heritage Park for his escort to the cemetery. We leave the park at 11:30, arrive at the cemetery at 12:00, then the service is at 12:30.
In the hearts of those who loved him, Skip leaves an inextinguishable spark. We take solace in the fact that his stories and his wit will continue to live on, not only in memory but also in the lives of those he loved and those who loved him. He was greatly loved and will be profoundly missed.
