John's obituary
John Mandara, aged 76, of West Milford, NJ, passed away on December 30, 2024, after a valiant battle with kidney disease. Born on December 14, 1949, John's life was marked by his passion for innovation, love for photography, and devotion to his family.
A proud veteran, John served in the US Navy, which instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and honor that he carried throughout his life. After his military service, he pursued higher education at Rutgers University, having previously graduated from Bridgewater High School.
John's professional life was distinguished by his career as an engineer at Ethicon, where he co-invented the endoscopic suture punch—a groundbreaking medical device that was patented and later acquired by Johnson & Johnson. This invention significantly advanced surgical techniques and demonstrated John's commitment to improving lives.
Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, John was a true enthusiast of life's simpler pleasures. He had a profound love for old muscle cars, often seen tinkering in his garage or attending car shows. Photography was another passion, capturing moments of beauty in everyday life. His love for animals was unmistakable, often spending time caring for pets and supporting local animal shelters.
John's memory is cherished by his loving daughter, Michelle Tucker from Cartersville, Georgia; and his grandchildren, Cacey Christopher (Nick), Jesse Tucker (Ashley) and Brandon Ott. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Mandara and Loretta Jagger.
