Celebrating the Life of John Settle

John Leslie Settle

May 17, 1962 - January 22, 2024

John passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024 at his home in Millsboro, DE following a long struggle with Lung Cancer, surrounded by friends and family.

Two Celebrations of Life have been planned:

  • Sunday, February 18, 2024, 1PM-4PM ~ American Legion Gold Star Post 191, 801 Prospect Road, Mount Airy, MD 21771
  • Friday, May 17, 2024, 1PM-Until ~ at Becki & John's Family Residence, Millsboro, DE 19966

In loving memory of John Settle, lover of life and the open water, fishing and hunting. Family comes in all shapes and sizes. John had a huge family including many friends who he enjoyed great times, rallying on their bikes at annual Bike Week, spending time on Rehoboth Bay on the boat, or feasting on crabs in their backyard. He was forever smitten and in love with his wife Becki, at first glance!

A 1980 graduate of Robert E. Peary High School, John grew up in Rockville, MD as the son of Donald and Shirley Settle. He grew up in an adventurous household, who would take trips around the country camping and spend weekends at their mountain cabin in PA. He served in the Army Reserves, and called to Active Duty in Desert Storm. John retired from the Montgomery County Public School System after 39 years.

John (also known as Papa John) leaves behind his wife Rebecca (Becki), his daughter. Nicole and her husband, Justin; two stepsons, Glenn Daughters, and Larry Daughters and his wife, Chasity, and their children, Zach, Seth, Cheyenne, Skylar and CJ; his father, Donald L. Settle, Sr.; his sister, Alice Settle-Raskin and her husband, Larry Raskin, and their children Jessica and Matthew; his sister Dianna’s children, Michael and Kimberly; and his sister-in-law, Sue.

John was predeceased by his mother, Shirley Settle, his brother, Donald L. Settle, Jr. and sister, Dianna LeLeux, and his mother-in-law, Marie.#JohnLeslieSettle #JohnSettle #CelebrationsofLife #CelebrationsofLife
