We are so saddened by John's death.  We first met him when he came to volunteer with us at the Blessed Michael McGivney Center in Waterbury.  We hired him to do some outdoor work for us, and he was excellent.  We became friends with John, as I know many St Patrick's parishioners did.  He was such a good young man, and his greatest desire was to love and serve God.  May perpetual Light shine upon him.  And prayers for the consolation of his family.

We are heartbroken and send our love to the Kozak family. John was so kind, smart, loving and sweet. You are in our prayers.

To the Kozak Family,

I am so very sorry for your loss. I didn’t know John well, but sometimes we would have lunch together at Holy Apostles last fall during my last semester there. He was a kind, humble, inspiring young Catholic gentleman.

Be assured of my prayers for John and for your entire family, especially in the holy Mass.

May God the Father of all mercies and hope hold all of you close at this most trying time.

Peace and prayers,

Fr. Dan Valente, MSA

I was John's 4th grade teacher and my heart is broken. He was so very smart and loved math board.

John- you will always hold a special spot in my heart- you were one of the first kids that Connor met  on the first day of Kindergarten in 2005- what a personality, so outgoing, energetic and enthusiastic! You always embodied the phrase of “Joie de Vivre”! You had the sweetest heart and had the amazing ability to be friends with anyone and even as a young kid you could bring a group of kids together to trade Pokémon cards or organize a game of playground baseball. You skied like an Olympic downhill racer and no one could keep up with you yet you’d wait patiently for your friends at the bottom. Anything that you did you gave it your all! Your smile and blue eyes always lit up the room - you will be missed but know that a little piece of John Kozak will live on in all of us who knew you. Please watch over us from above and be free…ski, hike, bike, smile, laugh, love and soar high- you will never be forgotten. Dave and Elizabeth- you raised an amazing and beautiful human- my heart is with you both and you too Collin ❤️

My condolences to the Kozak family.  John will be missed.  Very often I would see him around at St. Patrick's or other churches I happened to be at.  I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

What a sweet, sweet person. I am so glad to have known him, and my son is so lucky to have had him as a friend. Our hearts are broken.

My sincere condolences to John's family. John was a kind-spirited and wonderful young man who I had the pleasure of knowing as part of the St. Patrick Oratory parish family and Sursum Corda Young Adults group. Just a few weeks ago John and I were discussing how excited he was to move out to California for school. I was very sorry to hear of his passing. Please be assured of my prayers for John and your family. May he rest in peace.
I have many fond memories of seeing John at Crossroads for Christ. My deepest condolences to his family.

My sincere condolences to John's family. I am so sorry this happened. I first met John at Crossroads 4 Christ in Greater Hartford and I would encounter him throughout other events like the retreat at the Marian Friary of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We often talked to each other during these meetings. I just saw him at the social event in Saint Patrick's Oratory in Waterbury, just a week before his passing.

One of my favorite memories with John was when we walked together through the Stations of the Cross at the retreat center in West Hartford and prayed the rosary. In the short amount of time I got to know John, it was clear to me that he was a wonderful person and a devoted Catholic. I will always keep him and his family in my prayers. God bless his family and may God rest his soul.
