Dr. Appel, 

I was so saddened to hear about your devestating loss.  I know the profound saddness and emptiness you are experiencing right now.  Even now, hearing the words that, "This too will pass" may seem insensitive and unrealistic.  But in time, it will ease and it will become more bearable.  I have been where you are and if you would like to talk,  I am available.  You were more than just my PC physician, over the years you became a confidant and friend.  You know my life story and my family.   My heart aches for you and if there is anything I can do, please feel free to reach out to me.

I was terribly sad to hear of John's passing.  As a struggling freshman and sophomore at Hall High School, John's kindness made all the difference.  I felt privileged to know him as my good friend's "cool older brother," and those memories will stick with me forever.

We never met in person but our emails back and forth were always a source of joy for me. We were from two different cultures and age differences and it didn’t seem to matter We had great respect for each other’s philosophical and religious perspectives Im sorry he has left us so soon

There are no words to express the heartbreak this news brought.  My prayers and thoughts are with you all.  What an energetic and loving boy John was.  He had so much love inside of him to share, especially for Collin.  I have such fond memories of them together.  We had the best times riding the mattress express down the stairs, baking, playing by the river....I can't recount how many times I had to play John in basketball, he was so competitive, he was always striving to do better.  You raised amazing boys.

Elizabeth - I am so sorry to hear of your loss.  From the pictures that others have put up, he had a wonderful childhood filled with friends and a loving family.  We are out in SF now but heard the news from Lanny.  Let us know if there is anything we can do.
