John's obituary
John Edgar Klein
January 9, 1943 – March 20, 2026
January 9, 1943, Walter a barber and Helen Klein a homemaker welcomed their fourth son, John Edgar Klein in Steinauer, Nebraska.
There, John became accustomed to life in a small farming town before moving to the big city of Colorado Springs, Colorado at age five. John became active in after school pick up baseball games in the neighborhood park. Once, playing for the Colorado Springs Pirates, John threw his first and only no-hitter against the Fort Carson Comets. After high school, John attended Seminarii in Denver and received his Bachelors of Art and Philosophy, UNC Greeley with a Masters of Art, minor in Psychology in 1970, and his N.C.C. in 1975. As an accomplished counselor, John, married with daughters, moved the family to La Junta, Sterling and eventually Salida, Colorado. His wit and talent at writing and cartooning blossomed into a cartoon and professional mental health advice column in La Junta and Sterling as well as many humorous “Letters to the Editor” wherever he lived. John could always be found talking about his love of hiking, camping, playing cribbage, poker, racquetball, cartooning and telling jokes to anyone that listened. Mostly, John could be found analyzing the games of the Cubs or Rockies with friends, planning his next trip to visit his daughters in North Carolina and Wyoming or his next upgrades to his cabin dubbed “Home Plate” in Westcliffe, Colorado.
He is preceded in death by parents Walter and Helen Klein, Brothers Nick, Walter Jr. and Myron Klein, nephew Dennis Klein and multiple cousins/aunts/uncles.
John is survived in death by daughter Allison and son-in-law Jade Gernant with grandsons Cormac and Felix Gernant.
Daughter Karen Klein and son-in-law Mike Gorman. Daughter Ryann Klein. Nephews Tom Klein and Eric Klein.

A celebration of life and service at his beloved St. Joes Catholic Parish in Salida, Colorado will follow at a TBD date.
His ashes will be spread at Home Plate. As said by John many times, “There’s no crying in baseball!”
Play ball John!
