John Kerekgyarto, 88, of Whiting, NJ, passed away on February 12, 2023.
John was born on August 7, 1934 to Janos and Julia Kerekgyarto in Budapest, Hungary. While in Hungry he served in the Hungarian military and learned his landmark trade of tool and die maker. He also developed a love for soccer. He emigrated to the United States as a refugee in 1956, arriving in Camp Kilmer in Piscataway, NJ. Through the church he met his future wife Irene Yeney in 1957, whom he married on April 5, 1958 at the First Presbyterian church in Rahway, NJ. During the next 8 years of their lives together, they would not only have 5 children together, but John would also attain his United States citizenship in 1964. John worked at Chanel in Piscataway NJ for 30 years as a tool and die maker before retiring. One of John's biggest hobbies was woodworking, starting early in life continuing to his later years he always was working on something new for his kids. Some of Johns other hobbies through his life involved the sports of Soccer, Bowling and Golf. During his time in Rahway he also was the lead drummer for a local Hungarian band, playing throughout the area. John went on to become the president of the Hungarian American Citizens Club in Port Reading, NJ. He was involved heavily in his community supporting and creating a good environment for other Hungarian Immigrants like himself. He was then predeceased by his son Thomas Kerekgyarto. John is survived by his wife Irene and their children Laura and husband John, ,Daniel and wife Christina, John and wife Terry, Steve and wife Christine. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan and wife Alexa, Ashley, Tyler, Jonathan, Matthew, Joshua, Cayla and Nicholas.
