John's obituary

In Loving Memory of John Keel

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Keel, aged 73, who passed away peacefully on November 28th, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on July 23, 1952, in Sacramento, California, John was the eldest of nine siblings to Joan Keel (Farrell) and Walter Keel. His childhood was spent traveling with his family due to his father’s Air Force service, living in France, Germany, Hawaii, and eventually settling in Sea Cliff, New York. John attended St. Boniface Catholic School in Sea Cliff and North Shore High School in Glen Head before establishing his career as a landscape contractor in Islip, New York, where he owned and operated Keel Landscaping. He was well known for his beautiful landscape designs and meticulous brickwork, serving many clients in Long Island’s Hamptons region. In the 1980s, he relocated to Jupiter, Florida, where he owned and operated Jupiter Bobcat Service. John enjoyed fishing and riding his Harley Davidson in his free time.

John is survived by his daughter Melanie Powers (Jon); sisters Karen Saccente (Joe), Kathleen Hegarty (Bob), and Joan Engvik; brothers Jim Keel (Joan), Bill Keel (Elberta), Brian Keel (Lisa), and Robert Keel (Andrea); stepdaughters Lisa Suttman and Toni Partin; former wives Donita Keel and Vivian Kirkbride; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will continue to honor his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joan and Walter, and his beloved brother Danny.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared once finalized. Friends and family are invited to gather, share memories, and offer comfort during this time of loss.

John Keel will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May his memory be a blessing, and may he rest in peace.
