John's obituary
John “Jack” Edward Richardson was born on April 19, 1936 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He passed away on January 27, 2026 in Delta, B.C. after a prolonged battle with dementia.
His family moved to Vancouver when he was in his late teens. He started working in the print industry, and after successfully completing an apprenticeship, he built a career as a lithographer and colour separator with Broadway Printers.
Jack met the love of his life, Catherine Thompson, when he walked into a Vancouver record store in 1965. He courted her with his affable sense of humour and rides in his 1966 Mustang. On January 14, 1967, they were married in his new sister-in-law’s living room.
Jack and Cathie had two children, Scott Edward and Anissa Joy, and raised their family in Steveston. In 2013, he and Cathie sold the family home and relocated to Ladner.
Jack was a true “jack-of-all-trades” and a DIY-er. He had many interests, including fishing, archery, photography, Dixieland Jazz and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He was a member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and enjoyed building telescopes. He was known for his strong faith, and for always having a Dad-joke at the ready.
Jack was predeceased by his father, RCAF Squadron Leader Geoffrey Richardson, mother Rosamund (nee Patrick), brother Geoffrey and sister Gwendolyn. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cathie, and loving children Scott (Trina) and Anissa.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the wonderful staff at the Good Samaritan Delta View for their compassionate care in the final years of Jack’s life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Deltassist, so their services can help support other families through difficult times.
A memorial to honour and celebrate Jack will be announced soon.
