John's obituary
John was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on March 3, 1936. He spent his childhood playing hockey, trumpet with a successful local band, and helping out at his family's summer youth camp, he often spoke fondly of his memories of those years.
John served honorably in the Canadian Navy during the Korean War. After his service was completed he worked in finance in the Hamilton, Ontario area for many years. He relocated to the United States as a young man where he met and fell in love with his wife, Faye, they married on April 21, 1976.
John was always ready for a game of cribbage or Uno and he especially loved to be the champion! John was a baseball umpire during his spare time and loved a good ballgame. He worked at the Hillsboro Club in Hillsboro, FL for over 35 years and is fondly remembered there for his teasing and crazy socks competition.
John and Faye spent their summers at their mountain home in Glenville, NC where John worked at High Hampton Inn for many years. He truly enjoyed visits and being with his family. “Uncle John” invested his time in conversation, games and music with his nieces and nephews. He shared stories of the past and offered encouragement to younger generations. John loved a variety of music including big band, folk, blue grass, and especially live local performances. John played the trumpet as a young man and learned to play the guitar. He took up the dulcimer later in life and belonged to several dulcimer groups, playing at local events and nursing homes (where “one more time” was his favorite expression) and teaching children to play Mary Had a Little Lamb on the dulcimer was a source of joy. John volunteered at the Humane Society where he walked dogs that needed some extra love, he also volunteered at the local library and the dental clinic.
John's life will be celebrated in a private memorial ceremony at a later date. Friends and family that may wish to honor John, are encouraged to donate to the New England Frontier Camp, 197 Quite A Road, Lovell, ME 04051
John leaves behind his friends and family. We will all miss him.
