John's obituary
John Beaumont Huntington died September 20 approximately 5:30 PM at Porter Hills Retirement Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was born June 7, 1930 ( Ann Arbor, Michigan) to Albert Lord Huntington and Mary Bliss (Hubbell) Huntington. He was a graduate of University High School in Ann Arbor (1948). He received his bachelors (1952) and medical degree (1955) from the University of Michigan and completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery from there as well (1962). He married Patricia Elizabeth Dodge, RN on May 26, 1956. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve Medical Corps in London 1957-1959. He began private practice in Battle Creek Michigan in 1962 joining Dr. Norman Amos and his son, also Norman.
John held the school record for hurdles at University High School track and field (University High School closed soon after his graduation, so that record still stands). He loved Michigan football and served as team physician for Pennfield High School in Battle Creek. John and Pat both loved the outdoors including hunting and fishing along with extensive traveling. They were patrons of music including the University of Michigan Musical society. They were also supporters of the Binder Park Zoo and the Sportsman Club in Battle Creek. One of his favorite places was the family cottage nestled in Lakeside Association on Higgins Lake which he enjoyed for 92 years.
John retired from practice around 2002. Patricia proceeded John in death on June 20, 2008. John moved to Porter Hills Retirement Center in 2019.
John is survived by his sons, Tom (Cheri), Bob, and John (Michelle); his grandchildren, Christy (Jim), Shanna (Dave), Thomas, Austin, Christian, Christopher, Nick, Kate, Julia (Jacob), Nora, and Emme, and great granddaughter, Elizabeth.
