John Howard Williams, 68, of Dixon, Illinois, passed away on May 21, 2025, in his hometown of Dixon.
Born on April 18, 1957, in Dixon, John spent his life deeply connected to the land and community that shaped him. A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served his country during the Vietnam War with honor and dedication.
John was a man who found joy and peace in nature. An avid outdoorsman, he loved camping under the stars, hiking through wooded trails, casting a line into quiet waters, and hunting in the early morning light.
John's children remember summers spent at the Palisades, where their Dad shared his love for the outdoors with them. His deep appreciation for the natural world extended to animals as well-he cared for them with compassion and understanding. His cat, Baby Boy Negan, was a constant companion.
Those who knew John will remember his sharp sense of humor and his kind heart. He was known for being funny and helpful-always ready with a joke or a hand when someone needed it. Though stubborn at times, his determination was part of what made him such a strong presence in the lives of those around him.
John was a devoted family man whose love for his family was unwavering. He is survived by his loving wife Kathy Williams; his children Amy Hilliker, Hunter Williams, and Katie Williams; he was known as Papa to his grandchildren, John Hilliker, Paige Cater, Libby Hilliker, Ava Williams, Zoey Williams, Jack Williams, Charolette Willis, and Ella Willis.
He also leaves behind two soon to arrive great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Kimberly Williams; his brother Al Williams; his parents Henry and Delores Williams; as well as many spoiled four legged friends.
John's legacy is one of laughter around campfires, lessons taught on fishing trips, strength forged in service to country and family alike-and above all else -a deep love that will continue to echo through generations.
