Mike's mother, Phyllis Vargas (Payson) was a well respected Nursing Supervisor in Rockland for many years before her passing. She started up a nursing scholarship before her retirement that went on for many years. The scholarship is no longer active. Mike wanted to give back to the nursing community to honor his mother after his own passing. The RDNA serves eight communities in Knox county and operates on donated money only. Persons receiving care do not have insurance and are never turned down because of lack of payment. The RDNA is one of only three remaining District Nursing Associations in Maine.
