John's obituary
It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of John Paul "Stretch" Given, who left this world far too soon, but with a life that was nothing short of full. A true lover of music and the outdoors, he marched to the beat of his own drum.
To those who knew him, he was larger than life — a believer that “Everything is beautiful”. He found joy in the simple pleasures: a good song, a good laugh, a good meal, a night around the fire with friends who became family. He saw himself as a member of the circus that is our lives — wild, colorful, unpredictable — and he embraced every moment of it with open arms.
His greatest joy was his family. A loving, if nothing else, husband to his beloved wife, Paula, and a proud and caring father to his children, Shaun and Sara, he was always their biggest fan, offering encouragement, laughter, and unwavering love. He was a doting and tender grandfather to Lucas, Murphy, and Asa. His home was a place of warmth, music, and good stories — a sanctuary filled with life.
He was the life of the party, a man whose friendships ran deep. He gathered people like records, each one unique, each one cherished, spinning stories and sharing memories that will play on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in knowing he lived exactly the way he believed we all should — fully, loudly, and with joy. He has left us with a soundtrack of memories, laughter, and love that we will carry forever.
Your loving spirit lives on, Stretch, you were one of a kind.
