Johnny's obituary
John Gerald Doherty
April 14,1943 - January 24, 2026
John (Johnny) passed away peacefully on the morning of January 24, 2026. He spent his last three years in assisted living, and declined rapidly in the final two weeks.
He was born to John Vincent Doherty and Mary Agnes Jinks. He is one of four siblings: Mary Patricia (born 1936), Jacqueline Ann (born 1939), John Gerald (born 1943), and Robert Edward (born 1947).
Johnny was raised in a large Irish Catholic family in San Francisco's Mission District. He attended St. James Catholic Grammar School, St. Ignatius College Prep, and earned a B.S. in Marketing from the University of San Francisco in 1965 at the height of the Vietnam War.
Johnny was one of a kind, led a charming life and had an engaging personality. He loved to travel and socialize. Meeting people and traveling was definitely “his slice of life”. Probably as unique as the zinc-plated steel pennies that were issued the year he was born (1943). In addition to all his “kissing cousins”, Johnny developed friendships with many people that he stayed close to over the years.
Although Johnny's passing has been a difficult time for all who loved him, there is comfort in knowing that he is now free from the health challenges he faced in his final years. Friends and family take solace in the thought that he is reunited with those who went before him. The impact Johnny had on those around him endures, as the many cherished memories of his life and personality continue to live on with those who knew him.
