John's obituary
John Henry Galloway Jr. was born in St. Louis, Missouri on October 26, 1936 to John Henry Galloway Sr. and Marcella Smith.
John, also affectionately known as “Bubba” was educated in the St. Louis Public School System. He left school early, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served from 1953-1957. He also served during the Korean Conflict and later, the National Guard. He loved military service.
After his honorable discharge from the military, John went to Hubbard Business College where his excellent bookkeeping skills proved very useful in his church, where he also became an ordained minister. Ministry was not his occupation, but his calling and he never missed an opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
John became a bus operator, a career that started in St. Louis, Missouri, and ended in Los Angeles, California where he retired in 1990. John was a family man and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved taking trips in his RV. He also loved camping, fishing, playing cards and dominoes. He loved painting, carpentry and anything that involved working with his hands. He often said he was a “Jack of all trades.”
John was preceded in death by his parents, John H. Galloway Sr. and Marcella Smith, his son John H. Galloway III, daughter Natasha Galloway, brothers William (Bill) Galloway, Russell Galloway and Rufus Galloway, and two twin granddaughters. John will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memories, sons Travis Galloway and Jeremiah Galloway, daughters Meri Hallum (Rick), Lydia Flores (James), sisters Marie Galloway and Laura Galloway, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Words from his children:
I am grateful for your love, your wisdom, and especially your guidance to the Lord Jesus Christ. I’ll miss hearing your voice and life will never be the same without you. I love you forever. Goodnight for now, (Meri)
Pops was all about family. This man was rare. Strong!! Wise!!! I never met another man like him. They broke the mold after him. Pops has always been there for me and for that I am eternally grateful. I am who I am today because of Pops, that's a fact. Pops married my Mom when I was 1 year old, and he raised me like I was his own... I remember Pops sitting me down when I was 5 years old, getting ready to start kindergarten and he asked me if I wanted to use my birth name for school or the Galloway name. Without hesitation I choose Galloway. I said you’re the only Dad I got, and I want to use your name. He said with teary eyes & quote..."I love you son.” Pops gave me that smile/smirk that always made me feel loved and safe. One of the best memories I've ever had. That moment changed my life forever. You will be missed. I'll carry you in my heart forever. And until we meet again, Enjoy Paradise Dad!!! (Travis)
My dad, aka Pops! A God-fearing man with integrity. For everyone that God brought to him, he didn’t hesitate to share the gospel with them. (Jeremiah)
My dad John H. Galloway meant the world to me. He was always there for me when I needed him. He raised me since I was 3 weeks old. He was the only dad I know. He's the only dad I have, and he's the only dad I will ever have. I will never forget the love he had for his family. (Lydia)
