John's obituary

John Constantinos Gallourakis, 86, of Venice, Florida passed away peacefully on July 2nd. Beloved by family and friends, John always had a smile, handshake and hug to share. His wit, warmth and infectious laugh were enjoyed by everyone who knew him. An optimist at heart, John always saw the good in people, believed every problem had a solution and was truly grateful for his many blessings.

Born in Yorkville, Ohio, John served in the Navy during the Korean War, having enlisted at the age of 17 along with his identical twin brother, Gabe. John graduated from Yorkville High School upon his return from the Navy. John was a graduate of Gateway Technical Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and used his many skills to restore an early 1900’s farmhouse with his wife, Ellen, in Capac, Michigan. John also attended Macomb Community College in Detroit, Michigan. John retired from Chrysler Corporation where he held various leadership positions in materials management.

John had many interests and was an avid outdoorsman, loved to cook, travel and play cards but he especially cherished time spent with family and friends. He was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church in Martins Ferry, Ohio, for many years.

John is predeceased by his parents, Constantinos (Gus) & Pauline (Mejean) Gallourakis, his identical twin brother, Gabriel Gallourakis, his sisters, Irene Weigand and Lora Lee Gallourakis, and his granddaughter, Emily Gallourakis. John is survived by his wife, Ellen (Warren) Gallourakis, of 58 years, his sons Jeffrey (Julie) Gallourakis and Jason (Edwin Beltran) Gallourakis, and his grandson, Nathan Gallourakis.

A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that memorial contributions be made to Tidewell Hospice.
