John Gallegos, Sr., 87, passed away on February 12, 2026. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth; children, Elaine Shugart, Carol Gallegos, Julie (Dave) Morton, John (Eva) Gallegos II, Lisa (Chris) Jung; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. 

Preceded in death by his parents; and 1 brother (Carlos Gallegos) and 1 sister (Frances Ortiz).

John was born to Jose R. and Rafaelita Gallegos on October 13, 1938, in Ocate, New Mexico. He moved to Pueblo, Colorado when he was 7 years old and graduated from Central High School in 1956. 

After graduating from high school, he served in the United States Air Force for 4 years. He worked for 33 years as a civilian for the Department of Defense, retiring as a civilian personnel management specialist (McClellan AFB in Sacramento, California).
