John's obituary
John Jeffrey (J.J.) Featherson, Jr. (October 25th, 1973 – September 23rd, 2021) was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to John Jeffrey “Jeff” and Patricia Archer Featherson. As a child, J.J. was active in swimming, tennis, golf, and of course, basketball. He also became involved in theater productions, like “A Christmas Carol,” playing Tiny Tim at CTS at a very young age. He would also go on to shoot several local commercials, as well as appearing on local TV shows, like “Cowboy Bob” and “Who, What, How do you Know?” J.J. graduated from North Central High School in 1992, where he was active in theater and choir; including spending three years in the highly esteemed and multiple state champion, Counterpoints Show Choir.
J.J. went on to attend Indiana State University, but his love of theater never waned. During the early 1990’s, J.J. was in a number of productions in Indianapolis at both Civic and Footlite Theaters, including “Oklahoma” and “Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.” He would go on to receive an Encore Award for both of these shows, and was the youngest, at the time, to receive the Encore award for “Best Male Dancer,” for his role in “Oklahoma.”
J.J. married in 1999, and that same year his son John Jeffrey III “Jack” was born. A few years later, in 2004, his daughter Julianna, ever the daddy’s girl, was born. His children were certainly the love of his life. He was extremely proud of both of them for their accomplishments and their loving hearts. His son, Jack, is an executive chef in Michigan and shares the same love of music his father had. Julianna was born with a genetic condition that doctors have only been able to identify as severe autism. J.J. put her needs before anything else and she knows that; while many loved him completely, no one loved J.J. more than Julianna.
After 20 years away, J.J. had just recently moved back to Indiana, and was beginning to re-plant his Hoosier roots. He was thrilled he was able to become reacquainted with old friends and spend more time socializing with his family. He was able to enjoy quite a bit of live music since being back and took part in several evenings of karaoke, which always included JJ's rendition of "Walking in Memphis." While J.J.’s death was sudden and certainly unexpected, those of us who had a chance to spend more time with him and re-connect this last year, are grateful he came home.
J.J. had a huge heart. Sadly, that heart gave out while he slept on the morning of September 23, 2021. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mark and Jeanne Archer and paternal grandparents, Jack and Jean Featherson. He is survived by his children, John “Jack” (22) and Julianna (17). His parents, Jeff and Patti Featherson, his siblings, Mark, Casey (and wife Lisa), Jimmy, and Tricia Featherson, as well as his nieces and nephews, Lily, Charlie, Annalise, and Liam, whom he loved to dazzle and amaze with his sleight of hand, and make laugh with his terrible dad jokes.
We will all miss those bad jokes and even more so, his wonderful spirit.
