John's obituary

John Shannon Ertel passed away on the 11th of June, 2022. He is survived by his son and daughter, John Scott Ertel and Kathryn Kimberly Yacovodonato; their mother, Margaret; his cousins Roy, Mary, Richard, Martha, and Melinda; his beloved dogs, Lucky and Roux; and many, many friends.

"Shan" grew up on a ranch in Fort Worth, the only son of John Charles Ertel of San Francisco, California, and Ruth Shannon Hearn of Eastland County, Texas. He played baseball, basketball, and track. Notably, he was the captain of his basketball team and the star pitcher for Bellaire High School. He briefly attended Texas Christian University before he volunteered for the Army during Vietnam. He served as a Ranger and earned multiple awards and recognitions including two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.

John worked as a Pilot, a Petroleum Landman, and in Real Estate. He was a travel and nature enthusiast and especially loved visiting State and National parks. With his family, he went hiking, camping, and fishing all over the USA.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to John's memorial fund to help support Lucky and Roux who are lost without him.
