John's obituary

John Coleman Crump, 87, of Alexandria, VA, passed away peacefully on 2/27/2022,  in Gainesville, VA.  He  spent his final days surrounded by his family and friends, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.  John never gave up and developed friendships with others suffering from cancer while receiving chemo treatments.   John loved his family immensely and they loved him as well.  He was a free spirit and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a native Washingtonian and had a sense of direction better than anyone we know.  He knew every street and landmark in Washington, D.C. and some referred to him as a “Washingtonian Legend”.  John is predeceased in death of his parents, Welford and Violet Crump , sister, Norma Lusby, brothers;  Donald Crump, Burton Crump, and Raymond Crump.  He leaves behind his love of over thirty years, Susann Askins, his four daughters, and their spouses;  Patti Spanka (Jon), Johnna Crump, Kelley Albeck (Bill), Dale Wetsel (Butch) and his only son, John Crump (Miriam).  He leaves behind eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren who loved him dearly.  A celebration of life will take place at the end of March.  John’s favorite  last words were, “Don’t take any wooden  nickels”.  Even with all his suffering he still kept his sense of humor.
