Johny
John Collins Hutchinson passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023, in Rochester, Minnesota, surrounded by his family. Johny was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on December 13, 1943. He was the first child and only son born to Roy Berton and Olive Collins Hutchinson. He grew up in the Poplar Grove area of Salt Lake City, where he attended Franklin Elementary, Jackson Jr. High, and West High School.At the age of 17, Johny enlisted in the army and served from 1961 to 1964. Most of his tour of duty, he was stationed in Germany, and during that time, he was able to travel to other regions of Europe and experience its beauty. Johny lived most of his life in Utah but did reside in Beaverton, Oregon, for some time before returning to Salt Lake in 2005. When he returned, he enjoyed working at the ballpark and the Delta Center. After his cancer diagnosis in 2016, he moved to Dodge Center, Minnesota, to live with his daughter and caregiver, Diana, and her family. Johny did beat cancer and was able to spend much-loved quality time with his children and grandchildren over the past few years. He was so grateful to have that time with them.
Johny loved sports from the time he played Little League baseball. He was always a fan of the Salt Lake Bees and would root for the Vikings during football season. He loved country music, old western movies, and was one of Elvis Presley’s biggest fans. Johny had the best laugh that could make anyone smile when hearing it. He will forever be loved and missed.
Johny is survived by his children: Diana (Troy) Kusick, Johnny (Maryann) Hutchinson, Jessica (Oscar) Hutchinson, Scott (Alyssa) Hutchinson. His grandchildren: Daniel, Mikelley, Cheyenne, Shawn, Molly, Landon, and Coen. His three sisters: Ann (Jim) Bolton, Myra Hutchinson, and Kathy (Gary) Samples. His ten nieces and nephews, and his numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his father, Roy Berton Hutchinson, and his mother, Olive Collins Hutchinson, whom Johny loved and cared for during the last months of her life.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, October 14 in Dodge Center, Minnesota. Graveside services will be held with full military honors on Saturday, November 4, at 1:00 PM at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 N Street, Salt Lake City, Utah. An open house memorial service will follow from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at 2531 West 5780 South, Taylorsville, Utah.
