John's obituary
In Loving Memory of John Buckner
March 3, 1936 – March 3, 2026
John Buckner, a man of profound faith, boundless kindness, and an adventurous spirit, passed away peacefully on his 90th birthday, March 3, 2026. Born in New Bern, North Carolina, John was one of eight children born to Luther and Sarah Buckner.
A Life of Service:
John’s calling came early; he began his ministry at the age of 16. Then he enrolled at Holmes Bible College. For nearly two decades, he dedicated his life to the pulpit, sharing a message of love and grace until his retirement from full-time ministry in 1970. Following his service to the church, John brought his trademark work ethic to the Kerr Glass Company, where he was a dedicated employee for 25 years.
Faith, Family, and the Great Outdoors:
John was a man of diverse and vibrant interests, always outgoing and never meeting a stranger.
His life was a harmony of:
• The Gospel: His love for Jesus was the North Star of his life.
• Music & Airwaves: He loved to sing, filling his home with song, and spent countless hours as a ham radio enthusiast, connecting with the world across the airwaves.
• The Elements: An avid storm chaser, he found beauty in the power of the weather, yet he found his greatest peace while fishing, enjoying the quiet patience of the water.
Above all, John loved his family and was happiest when his home was full of laughter and conversation.
Family Legacy:
John was preceded in death by his parents, his seven siblings, and his beloved son, Joey.
His legacy of love continues through his wife, Juanita Buckner, and his children: Susan, Scottie, Dexter, and Sarah. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, all of whom were the lights of his life.
A Closing Note:
"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." — 1 Corinthians 13:13
