John's obituary
JOHN GEORGE BRIDEGROOM
August 11, 1948 – August 15, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family and friends of John George Bridegroom, age 76, announce his passing. Loving husband to Ruth Alejandra Valdivia, wife of 37 years, and proud father of Alejandra Georgina Bridegroom, he was much beloved. He was born in Queens, New York, the son of Helen and John Bridegroom. His surviving siblings are Dick Bridegroom, Barbara Rubin, Jon Leckerling, Richard Leckerling, and Bill Leckerling and their respective spouses and children.
John was proud of having been a manager of a multimillion-dollar enterprise: The California Lottery and of having hired the largest female staff to date, increasing its diversity.
He was a no-nonsense New Yorker at heart and always told it like it is, but he was always the first to ask you questions to get to know who you were and what you were about. This is how he connected with others and what gave him his special charm. One of the special qualities that endeared John to his wife was that he treated everybody the same, seeing no one as any more special or less special than anybody else.
John formed lasting friendships and these friends, from college and early work experiences, became lifelong connections, an extended family.
He was a major sports fanatic, with his greatest love being baseball. His collection of nearly 70 autographed baseballs, 28 autographed bats, and innumerable additional memorabilia attests to that! He loved all sports and also very much enjoyed watching football, basketball, soccer, golf, car racing, and the Olympics.
His family and friends sincerely hope he is now watching the big screen up in the sky.
