John F. Breit “Gomer”, 71, of Loves Park, Illinois passed away suddenly Monday, February 28, 2022. He was born February 8, 1951; a son to Pearl (Anderson) and John F. Breit, Sr.

John graduated from Guilford High School, with the class of 1969. John had worked at various machine shops including EWT, W.F. & John Barnes Company, and was still employed as a part-time truck driver with Cascade Industries. He also worked part-time at The Metro Center for 20+ years.

John was a lifelong racing enthusiast of the Rockford Speedway since his racing days as a teen, and a devoted NASCAR fan. He was a loyal sports fanatic; enjoying the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Blackhawks, Rockford Ice Hogs, and a round of golf with his closest friends.

John’s smiles and laughs could fill a room and ensured no one stayed a stranger for long. Most of all, John loved every moment he spent with his family. His unending love for friends and family was exemplified by his final donations to the Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Network.

He is survived by his wife Laurie; sons, John (Elizabeth) Breit, Jody (Wendy) Breit and Carl White; grandchildren, Peyton Breit, Paige Breit, Emily White and Zoey White; siblings, Gail Williams, Sue (Dave) Patterson, Vickie (Tom) Faleo, Pat (Wendy) Breit, James (Jeni) Breit; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his parents; father-in-law, Gordon Ramey and brother-in-law, Dave Ramey, and numerous aunts and uncles.

A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2022 from 4pm to 8pm at Forest Hills Lodge, 1601 West Lane Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111. Please wear your favorite sports jersey (or similar casual dress).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family either here or in-person at the Celebration of Life.
