I was saddened to hear about John. He made some really good friends in high school after entering as a shy, smiling kid and then growing into a confident, handsome young man who became the heart of our tennis team. Got us into trouble on occasion but we were all willing participants!! His mischievous nature and ability to make people laugh will be what I remember about John for the rest of my life. And what a talented athlete. Great family,; so glad I got to know all of you, however briefly. I will never forget.
I remember getting in trouble for talking with John during English class. We always had a great time. May your memories bring you joy and your faith give you comfort and peace.
So sorry for all of you, will surely pray you are comforted by THE Great Comforter. John was such a nice guy! And your mother was such a wonderful example of servant hood and compassion. All of you Porters left such a positive mark on the Brenham community.
I got to know John a little when in some high school class ( I forget which one) I sat in front of him and we talked to each other all through class. That’s probably why I don’t remember the class. He was so nice and so funny. I was in love with him, but he was in love with another girl. I told him I would send congratulations when as an adult he would surely win tennis championships, and he would just grin. I have often wondered about him. I’m so sorry he suffered pain in his last years. I send sincere condolences to his sisters and their families. John was a sweet and gentle soul.
We shared a table at Hooters of course. Last time was maybe three weeks before his passing. I was so sad when I heard he was gone.We shared many happy conversations in the 10+ years I knew him. Lotta laughs when we were together. That can’t be replaced. So I will carry on and try to make someone laugh like he did me.
