John's obituary
John was born, April 16, 1934, in Laurel MS to Lou Bertha (Dawson) and Reverend Alonzo Lee Bohannon Sr.
He attended St Joseph HS, Meridian MS., where he successfully graduated in 1954. Upon graduation, he joined the US Army where he spent 6 years and specialized in Artillery but developed his passion for photography.
On September 6, 1958, John married the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Augusta Rosetta Hampton. Shortly after marriage, with only a few dollars in his pocket John left for California to create a life for he and his new bride.
His first job in California was Natches Department Store where he worked in building maintenance. His determination and strong work ethic lead him to other jobs with companies such as Feddes Furniture Store later Ethan Allen and Bell & Howell. He would go on to retire from Datatape (owned by Kodak).
John did not only work for these companies but with his entrepreneurial spirit worked for himself in his own maintenance company and gardening business.
A large part of John’s life was his service to God and his church. John was a faithful member of Scott United Methodist Church Pasadena for over 65 years, where he served on the usher board, Methodist Men Ministry, not to mention his care taking of the church grounds. In 2005 he would be honored by Scott Methodist with a plaque and a garden in his name.
On July 5, 2022, John received his wings and now rest with Our Father in Heaven.
Preceding him in death his Father Rev Alonzo Lee Bohannon Sr, Mother Lou Bertha Bohannon, brothers Robert Lee Bohannon, and Alonzo Lee Bohannon Jr, and sisters, Fannie Beatrice Chadwick, Leonia Ruth Tremble, Annie Gladys Bohannon.
He is survived by 1 brother: Charles Bohannon (Mary) and 2 sisters Joyce Danella Demus and Novella Bertha Willis.
He leaves behind, in love, his wife of 65 years Augusta Rosetta Bohannon, 5 children: Roslyn, Sebrena, Kimberly (Tony), Wendell (Valerie), and Daron (Vai), 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
