John's obituary
John “Johnny” Anthony Baranello Sr., a lifelong resident of New Jersey, has passed on March 19th at the age of 78. John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Suzanne Baranello; his three children Patricia Tomoney, Debra Reynolds and John Baranello Jr.; his siblings Barbra DeAngelo and Alexander Baranello Jr.; and his six grandchildren Megan, Sarah, James, Sean, Kate and Preston. He is predeceased by his sister Victoria Freda and brother Joseph Baranello.
John was born in Newark, New Jersey on June 15th, 1945, to his late parents Angelina and Alexander Baranello Sr. Graduating from Columbia Highschool in Maplewood, New Jersey in 1963, John went on to college for 1 year before getting drafted to the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After 2 years of service, John was honorably discharged and in 1965 went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service for the next 35 years.
Over the course of those years John and his wife welcomed three children in Piscataway, New Jersey, where they resided for the next 47 years. John was a devoted father and husband, taking on an active role in his children’s lives and interests. Notably, he was a member of the Superchief Band Parents Association for 12 years for all three of his children. He will always be remembered for his competitive spirit and a love of sports. Namely, he was an avid golfer, lifelong bowler, and passionate baseball fan – with the Yankees being his favorite team since childhood. His sense of humor and love for his family will always be cherished by his loved ones and fondly remembered for years to come.
A service will be held for John at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery on Thursday, March 28th at 10:15 AM; located at 350 Province Line Rd., Wrightstown, New Jersey. A celebration of life will then be held after at The Waterfront from 5 PM – 9 PM; located at 361 E Lacey Rd., Forked River, New Jersey.
