John's obituary

Dr. John Berry Ashe, 88, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away on July 16, 2019 while attempting to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa.

John was born in Monroe, Louisiana to Claude Sr. and Margaret Ruth (Berry) Ashe on December 31, 1930. He served in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. John graduated with honors from The University of Texas at Austin in 1956 and earned PhDs in Physics and Mathematics in 1961. John held a variety of prestigious positions in the field of nuclear physics for Texas Nuclear Corporation, Searle Diagnostics, Victoreen, and most recently for Ashe Analytics, a company based in Butte, MT that he founded with his wife. He was a pioneer in nuclear physics, held numerous U.S. and foreign patents, and authored many publications throughout his lifetime. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, hiking, prospecting, and gardening. John’s tireless pursuit of knowledge, both professionally and for sheer curiosity, inspired everyone he met. He was a consummate southern gentleman and held a deep respect for all things living. Above all else, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

John is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Claude Ashe Jr. and James H. Ashe, sister Margaret “Mark” Ruth Davidson, and son Phillip Douglas Ashe.

John will be deeply missed by his wife Patricia (Miller) Ashe who he married on October 10, 1959.
