Johanna's obituary

Johanna Cerone of Glens Falls went home to Jesus on June 6, 2022 she was 63 years old. She was born on August 29, 1958 to Elinor  (nee Starski) Cerone and the late Raymond Cerone in Deer Park on Long Island.

Johanna was a 1976 graduate from Deer Park High School, a 1978 graduate from Suffolk County Community College and received her BA in Home Economic Education from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1980.

After college, she worked as a textile tester for the Bureau of Standards in NYC.

Johanna met her husband to be at Plattsburgh College when he came to visit her roommate Debbie Franzen. On October 2, 1982, Johanna married Michael Franzen and moved to Ithaca NY. It was there they resided until 2014 when they relocated to Glens Falls NY, near where Mike grew up. She and Mike were married for nearly 36 years when he passed away on August 22, 2018.

Johanna enjoyed life. She especially enjoyed the theater, seeing many Broadway and off Broadway shows. She enjoyed musicals and could often be heard singing some of her favorite show tunes. She also enjoyed her jewelry and had many unique and beautiful pieces that had been passed on to her from her Grandmother and great aunts. Johanna also enjoyed preparing special and elaborate meals for the holidays using traditional family recipes from her mother and grandmother. She always hosted the Franzen family Christmas in January which included a delicious feast along with a favorite among the kids - the peppermint pig. Johanna also enjoyed reading about and discussing politics. But most importantly, Johanna spend a lot of time over the years caring for family members in their time of need - like her grandmother, great aunts, mother in law, her husband and most recently, her mother.

Johanna was predeceased by her husband Michael “Morris” Franzen, her father, Raymond Cerone, her in laws Theodore and Claudia (nee Thompson) Franzen, and her brothers Daniel “Danny”and James “Jimmy” Cerone.

Left to cherish her memory is her mother, her sisters in laws Cathy (nee Luparello) Cerone and Deborah (Em) Lewis, her brother in law Jeff (Gail) Franzen, her nephews Christopher (Ashley) Cerone, Matthew (Angelina) Cerone, Brian Cerone and his fiancé Logan,  Jackson Franzen, Erik Lewis, Matthew (Chrissy) Lewis and Kyle (Jakie) Lewis  her niece Taylor (Jason) Shandler and many great nieces and nephews - Lyra, Quentin, Vivienne, Luca, Gianna, Amaya and Jackson, and goddaughter, Katherine (nee Norton) (Justin) Taubensee.  Also many friends and cousins, especially her cousin Carly who has been such a huge help to Johanna and her mother during the last few weeks. 

Services were held at Carleton funeral home on June 11, 2022 with a mass at St Mary's St Paul's church both in Hudson Falls. A reception was held at Davidson’s Brothers Brew Pub. Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 5720 Hamilton-Mason Rd., Liberty Twp. OH next to her brother Daniel  Cerone and  with her husband Micheal Franzen.
