Even though Pieter and I grew up in Belmont, I didn’t actually meet him until many years later. We became very good friends, and we had many things in common. We were both in the beauty business and we both had four children and lots of grandchildren. Pieter was so proud of his children and we both boasted how lucky we were to have such wonderful kids. It wasn’t until Pieter became sick, our friendship developed into a stronger bond. We went to the Cape for a few days last year and we really had a very nice time, reminiscing about the olden days, (fast cars), and sang songs from that time , yes it was a bit corny, but fun! I have wonderful memories with Pieter, even though our time together was not long, he will be missed. My deepest condolences to Pieter’s family during this very difficult time. 💔

Pieter was a fixture of my young adult life. I remember going to Discos With him your mom and uncle Charlie. We also went to see The Wiz in Boston that was a fun night. We work together in construction of two commercial buildings and looking back on it that was fun. He was so happy when you were all born and I remember him bringing Lauren and Maria to the construction office you were so adorable (Still are ) he was very blessed to have you and your beautiful children with him during the last year plus. Sending so much love to all of you

My deepest condolences to your family on this great loss. I met Pieter over a decade ago through mutual friends in the local music and entertainment scene. I had the pleasure to chat and hang out with him on many occasions, as we would discuss life, music, movies and art. He loved talking about his daughters, an undeniably proud father. He was always down to earth and easy to talk to, with a great sense of humor. I am thankful to have at least stayed connected with him on social media when those days came to an end. Rest in Peace, Pieter. All the best to your family.

Pieter visited us in Amsterdam years ago with his parents as a young boy. Also than he was already very interested in cars. I never knew that he liked cars that much. Later on our contact became closer in taking care of his mother. A beautiful, nice, strong woman. He is looking so like his father, who was also a very nice man. So I'm deeply hit by his death. Pieter.....Rest In Peace!

Wow, what a beautiful tribute to your father. It’s sums up so many of his unique qualities. As a child I was fortunate enough to spend a bit of fun time with your dad as he and your mom would take me to do all sorts of fun things. Go to the Wiers at the lake, go to fun spot, getting ice cream at Kimbles. Sometimes ‘scary to me’ rides in his muscle cars, which I didn’t love so much! He took me to Star Wars and I fell asleep. He must’ve been aghast! You all had been so caring to your father throughout this and it’s wonderful your children got to spend a little time with their ‘Opa’. I’m sure it must be a source of great pain and loss and I’m sending you all my love. Love aunt Maria

What a beautiful obituary . Your Dad has been a huge part of our lives. We remember all of the holidays and get togethers with family. We cherish all of the fun times at the Lake with you all and your Dad. You and your beautiful children made him so happy in his final days. He will be missed by so many people. We send our love .Grandma and Grandpa.

There are so many memories that Pieter and I shared. One we both would reminisce about was when we had to tar a foundation in Weston in 90 degree heat. It seems so simple yet it was a memory we both shared and we would talk about that day. We also worked together in both the construction business and the car business
He will be dearly missed
Love,
Uncle John

Thank you for the wonderful obituary about Pieter.
My father, Rene, was Pieter’s first cousin. Sounds like they had many things in common - love of cars/mechanics; great storytellers; lots of trivia knowledge; good at building things and could easily talk to anyone at anytime about anything!
I enjoyed getting to know Pieter over the last 11 years, even though it was only via social media. He shared a lot of great photos and information about the van der Keyl family. He was entertaining and interesting! His love for his family came across as very strong.
My condolences to you all - Lauren, Maria, John and Bethany. 💙

A word to describe my cousin, fun! When I think of Pieter, i think laughter, fun and sometimes a little mischief. From the time we were kids, good times were had together. He liked to tease and when he did I called him out cause he sounded just like his dad. Some of my most vivid memories were up by the lake. He was the first of us to drive and we took full advantage. He loved his cars. We went all around up there till the night he missed a turn and on a stone wall we landed. Boy he was mad, his car you know!! I also talked him into going up there in winter. My sister ran away from home and my parents thought Pieter and I would make a good rescue team. Two 17 year olds in the night all the way to Meredith NH. I don't think I could have driven it alone. Especially when the car suspension let go and a priest stopped to help us.. Told you, with Pieter round, never a dull moment. Teenage years were an adventure with him, I'll never forget them. I will never forget you either cuz. You were truly one of a kind

I am thankful for the JOY he got from you children and his grandchildren ( and grandpup ). You did a wonderful job advocating and caring for him from the day he was diagnosed. He left this world surrounded by your love . It was palpable just being in the room with you all. My heart is heavy for you my precious children. I hope you know what a precious gift you gave him. One that likely went both ways. I love you. Mom

I honestly didn’t have the privilege to know Pieter as well as some but he did make an impression. We met by chance one day. He walked into my West Acton salon to spread the word of a product that may have been appropriate for our business. Usually I’m pretty firm with salespeople and would just thank them for their time and send them on their way but Pieter’s friendly vibe drew us into conversation. After a few minutes of chat, we realized that he knew and worked with my mother for a couple of years for the Bellantoni family. Small world. Needless to say, he was successful with selling the product. We met up a few times in regards to salon business and he has always supported my business on social media. I admired his ability to remember people and stay in touch. Sometimes we would benefit from a pop-in visit at the salon from Pieter to say hi on his way to visit another of his many friends. I never once doubted the sincerity of his friendliness and warmth. He was a treasure.
