Joel's obituary
Joel was a graduate of Jamestown High School, Class of 1957, and of Jamestown Community College. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Goddard College. He worked in different industries in NY and MA after service in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964. Joel was a pioneer in the field of stay-at-home fathers as he lovingly cared for his daughters until they reached school age.
He enjoyed music, including playing his trumpet and participating in several community theater musicals. He also was a roller skater, having competed in regional, state and national pairs competitions. He was a talented photographer, chronicling family events and travels.
Joel is survived by his wife, Linda (Reed) Wilcox, whom he married October 5, 1968. He is also survived by his daughters and grandchildren, Sarah (Joseph) Takash, and William, Margaret and Antonio, and Emily (Todd) Cranwell, and Lindan.
In addition, Joel is survived by his sister, Jennifer Putnam and his brother, John Wilcox. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his aunt, Emma Pfeiffer. He was predeceased by his sister, Judith Chettle.
There will be a memorial service for Joel on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at Easton, 7401 Ocean Gateway, Easton MD. A family service is being planned for the Jamestown, NY area on June 15, 2019.
