Joel's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joel Miller, beloved husband, father, and friend, who departed this life on February, 17th 2025 at the age of 65. Born in Charleston, WV, Joel was the son of the late Delores and Babe (Morris) Miller. He was a man who embraced life with humor, intellect, and boundless curiosity, always willing to lend a hand or share a joke.
Joel grew up in Charleston, where he graduated from Charleston High School and cherished the memories of mountain life and his Jewish upbringing. He was a true jack of all trades, dedicating his life to many pursuits: from joining the Navy, to working as a mechanic, HVAC technician, and self-taught computer repairman. His talent for solving problems was matched only by his passion for tinkering and fixing things, whether they be cars, computers, or any other challenge that came his way. Known for his mathematical genius and practical knowledge, Joel was the kind of man who could fix anything.
In 1984, Joel married the love of his life, Renee, and together they raised two beautiful daughters, Molly Blumenberg and Persephonie Rose. Over the years, Joel and Renee moved to various states, always embracing new adventures and living life on their own terms. Their family was their greatest joy, and they nurtured it with love, laughter, and a spirit of exploration.
Joel’s admiration extended beyond his daughters to the wonderful individuals they chose as life partners. He welcomed Molly’s wife, Autumn Blumenberg, and Persephonie’s husband, JR Hawkins, into his heart as if they were his own. Autumn’s kind heart, shared interests, and unwavering support for Molly, along with JR’s warmth and dedication to Persephonie, made them cherished members of the family Joel so deeply treasured.
Above all, Joel was a family man. He adored his wife, daughters, and their families, and his love for them was immeasurable. His sharp wit, generous spirit, and infectious sense of humor will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Joel’s passion for baseball, his love of telling jokes, and his special ability to bring smiles to the faces of those around him were just a few of the many gifts he shared with the world.
Joel’s family will miss him dearly, but his memory will live on in the stories he told, the laughter he shared, and the legacy of love and strength he leaves behind. He is survived by his wife, Renee; daughter Molly and spouse Autumn Blumenberg; daughter Persephonie Rose and son-in-law JR Hawkins; and a host of cherished friends who were blessed to know him.
Rest in peace, Joel. You will forever be in our hearts.
