Joel's obituary
Joel Lechel passed away March 29th, 2025 in Miami Florida, leaving behind his life partner, Amy Allman, daughter Harper Bloom (Jacob Bloom), son Sam Lechel, grand daughters Magnolia (6) & Juniper (3 months), brother Dan Lechel, brother David Lechel, & brother John Lechel.
Joel was born in Garden City, Michigan on December 23rd of 1958 to Katherine & Richard Lechel. "Jim" spent his childhood on the shores of Hubbard Lake surrounded by his family and in Garden City.
After graduating high school, Joel went off to be a merchant marine, a true pirate. As he sailed around the world 12 times in 34 years, he would tell endless ship stories as he made new friends along his journey. He took such pride in his work. His gypsy soul lived in true colors as a pioneer throughout his worldly adventures. Joel was not fearful to carve his own path.
“Yogi” always came back to Hubbard Lake, Michigan, where he raised his 2 children (Harper & Sam). Some of his most favorite things to do included snowmobiling, going for rides on his Harley, spending time with his family, enjoying any beach, and soaking up the sunshine. “Jo-el” was someone who lived his life to the most potential. All of the journeys “Yog” has been on, all the people that have been blessed to have met him all around the world, and the best “G-Paw” Maggie & Junie will know. Joel truly enjoyed his time spent with his family.
“Ole” enjoyed his last 9, beautiful years of life with his life partner, Amy. They were known to pack PB&Js, hop on the Harley, and go to the beach to just enjoy each other's company and watch the water. They took many trips from Washington, to the Florida Keys, and everywhere inbetween. They are the true epitome of forever soulmates and everyone that knows them together, knows this is true.
Joel is preceded in death by his mom, Katherine Lechel (Ream), dad, Richard Lechel, & sister, Caroline Vega.
Joel has been cremated and will be spread in a few private family locations. We are planning a celebration of life for Joel this summer in Hubbard Lake. Please reach out via text to Harper at (989) 464-6604 for details.
