Joel R. Hanshaw, age 42, a resident of New Lenox, IL went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2023. He was born on February 4, 1980 to Terrance and Dianne Hanshaw of Wheaton, IL.

Joel was an exceptional husband and father. Joel was a devoted son to his mother and father. He was a loving brother to his sisters, Debbie (Patrick) Fitzpatrick and Corinne Hanshaw (Jon Vercoe, future brother-in-law). He was a proud uncle to Norah, Anderson and Gunnar Fitzpatrick.

He grew up in Wheaton where he attended Wheaton North High School. He then earned his BS in Management and MBA from National Louis University. He went on to work for National Louis University beginning in 2014 and was most recently Director of IT Support and Service Excellence. Joel was dedicated to his position and enjoyed everyone he worked with. He genuinely loved his job.

Joel met Kristen and they were married on June 24, 2011. Together they had three beautiful children (Natalie, Meredith & Brandon). They enjoyed spending time laughing and doing fun things, vacations being a favorite time. Their humor was a perfect match.

Joel was a Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox fan. He had football on every Sunday. Joel enjoyed fishing and going to the gun range, shooting competitions. He loved music and going to concerts. Joel had a friend group that meant a lot to him, they were his other family. Joel has been described by his friends as someone who everyone wanted to be around. He was a man you could always count on. He talked about the fun he had playing poker, trips, hangouts. There were countless memories. While his time was cut short, the friendships he shared provided an opportunity to live life to the fullest. Joel mostly loved taking care of his children and making memories with Kristen.

Joel's faith began as a young child. He would talk about his love for Jesus with his mom when he became ill. He loved hearing her read the Bible to him and praying together. He is now in Glory.

Joel left this world far too soon. He will be deeply and sorely missed.
