Joel's obituary
Joel Loren Chiappetta, age 50, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away on February 16, 2023, after a period of illness. He was born on February 8, 1973, in Hinsdale, Illinois, to Melissa Ann and the late Carmen Michael Chiappetta.
Joel grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago and attended St. John of the Cross School. He later played hockey for St. Rita High School, where he formed many lasting friendships during those years. He attended St. Joseph's College and went on to pursue a career in sales where he flourished. Outside of his love for hockey, Joel enjoyed skateboarding, skiing, golf, and a deep love for music from the 1960s and 1970s.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, his ability to make people laugh, and for making his family’s beloved rib meat mostaccioli recipe.
Joel was the proud father of Joel Carmen‑Nicholas Chiappetta, who was the light of his life. Some of his son’s happiest memories with him include time spent together in Utah in July 2018, Christmas in Naples with Grandma and Grandpa Chiappetta, and fun summers in Bridgman, Michigan. Those moments will always be treasured by his family.
Joel is survived by his son, Joel Carmen‑Nicholas; his mother, Melissa; his siblings, Scott (Donna) Chiappetta and Terry (Patty) Chiappetta; his former partner and the mother of his son, Maria Terziski; and many childhood and professional friends who will remember him with affection. He is preceded in death by his father, Carmen.
He will be missed and remembered in the stories and memories shared by those who knew him.
