Joe's obituary

Joe Sharkey Young, 89, of Katy, TX passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at home after a long fight with Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia.

He was born at home in Abraham, Millard County, Utah, on Monday, December 28,1931. Joe graduated from Hinckley High School and received a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Utah. He married Beverly Pickering (deceased 1978) on Friday, December 20, 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Ilene Muir of Bountiful, UT, on Tuesday, May 1, 1979 in the Salt Lake Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Joe grew up on a farm, milking cows, and planting alf-alfa. He won the American Star Farmer Award in his FFA Chapter and was sent to Kansas City to compete at the national level. He was drafted into the Army at 23, during the Korean War, and served 2 years. He owned and operated Shallizar Bronze Inc. creating belt buckles, chess sets, keychains and other pieces from bronze using the lost wax process. Joe went on to work in Sales and as a computer consultant for various businesses after moving his family to Texas. He served many stake missions and loved serving the youth of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was a man of great faith who loved his family and always saw the silver lining in any situation. Joe was known for his witty jokes and his fun-loving smile.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ilene Muir Young, four sons: Jay Scott Young (Florence Nissim), Jeremy Stephen Young (Janece Johnson), Jonathan Samuel Young (Valeria – Div., Megan Copenhaven– Sep.), Jacob Spencer Young (Laura Manuel). One Daughter: Jennifer Shellene Young Stadnick (Daniel).

Eleven Grandchildren: Jade Arriola Myers, Jearica Young Rodriguez, Anna Young, Preslee Young, Kyan Young, Calee Young, Olivia Young, Sophia Young, Zoe Young, Joseph Stadnick, and one on the way. Two Brothers: Hal Young, and Sid Young (Cecilia). One Sister: Emily Young McCollaum (Paul). One Daughter-in-law, Jeff’s wife, Cindy Young.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alva Allen Young and Emily Margret Petersen, one brother, Alva Allen Young Jr. “Juke”, Joe’s first wife, Beverly Pickering Young, one son, Jeffrey Lynn Young, and one granddaughter, Lillian Elly Young.

An Open House will be held at the LDS Chapel in Katy at 1928 Drexel Dr. Katy TX 77493 on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 2:00-4:00 pm.
