Background
Joe, a devoted member of the Broken Spoke Family Association (BSFA) for an incredible 16 years, continued to channel his passion for the organization even after his retirement in December 2015. To Joe, the BSFA was not just a group of individuals who shared a love for riding; it was a brotherhood. A brotherhood that not only provided unwavering support among its members but also extended that support to the wider community.
For Joe, helping others was a core part of his identity, which is why donating to Operation Santa’s Sleigh holds a special place in honoring his memory.
Operation Santa's Sleigh is a heartwarming initiative that commences each year on October 1st. Families in need from Harford and Cecil Counties submit heartfelt letters outlining their circumstances, including the number of children and adults in their households, along with sizes and items of necessity and desire. BSFA goes above and beyond, requesting specific details about the children's personal interests. This includes essentials like winter coats and shoes, personal hygiene products, and toys. For those families truly in need, BSFA also provides Christmas trees, decorations, lights, and the makings of a traditional Christmas dinner.
The number of families they can assist each year depends on the funds raised through various events like fish and shrimp cookouts, Halloween parties, and basket bingo. Last year, BSFA had the privilege of selecting 8 families, encompassing 25 children. The growth of Operation Santa's Sleigh over the years has been nothing short of remarkable, allowing the organization to touch the lives of even more families in need.
As Christmas approaches, the magic of the season comes alive when Santa, Mrs. Claus, and even the Grinch join forces to make special deliveries to these families. While parents receive boxes filled with beautifully wrapped gifts ready to place under the tree, several BSFA members spend precious moments with the children, bringing smiles and laughter.
This is why making a donation in honor of Joe would mean a great deal to our family and the BSFA. It would not only continue Joe's legacy of compassion and service but also ensure that more families in need experience the warmth and joy of the holiday season. Operation Santa's Sleigh is just one of the many ways in which BSFA contributes to the community. The organization's tireless members also volunteer at the American Legion, participate in Wreaths Across America, provide essential school supplies, and brighten springtime with Easter Baskets, spreading hope and joy throughout the year.
