Elizabeth Reyes
2020, Brownsville, TX, USA
Joe passed away unexpectedly this 4th of July. He had been sick of diabetes the last couple of years. Most common symptom was high sugar level and a swollen foot that balloned out to twice the size of his normal size. During these last couple of months, he was able to rest and get enough to eat. He did not always make it out to walk. He was not used to living by the border and the very hot weather though we lived close to South Padre Island, affected him negatively. He happen to hurt his leg over a month ago when he fell. From there, his health deteriorated a little. He was hospitalized for two days and became unresponsive the second day he was there. He was not tested for covid19 because he did not have those symptoms. I received a phone call on the 4th of July from local hospital, informing me he had passed away. I was not allowed to be with him at time of hospitalization.

I believe he was also sad over his past relationships. He often felt a little sad he did not have more family support. I never heard from family while with him. I guess we were similar in this. I was lucky enough to meet his brother George and his mother. His sister took over funeral arrangements. I hope to raise some money and give it to her or the funeral home she has chosen. I will be forever grateful for the time I had to get to know him and I pray his family will move forward. May you rest in peace Joe. 💝
