Joe's obituary
Joe David Glimp, 63, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully in his home on January 12, 2024 after a seven month battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme. He was born January 24, 1960, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Joe Don Glimp and Joy Kay (Roberds) Glimp of Midwest City, Oklahoma.
Joe was the oldest of four children and took his role as ‘Protector’ very seriously. He was a rambunctious young man who enjoyed dabbling in all things boy, especially motorcycles, guns, and fishing. Joe was, and remained throughout his life, an avid reader. If it had words on it, he read it. He was known by his teachers for his speed reading and retention. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps and, among many experiences including living in Japan, found a love for overseas travel and the martial arts. Returning home, Joe followed the career path of his father and grew to have a great and respected career as a highly skilled machinist/tool and die design and fabrication specialist. He truly enjoyed the challenge of using his imagination to design and create prototypes of all kinds, and had the admiration of his colleagues for being able to complete seemingly impossible projects. Joe studied at the Oklahoma State University-OKC and the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith.
Through Joe’s first marriage, his son Jesse Don Glimp, was born. He loved spending time fishing with Jesse and taking him to ride his four wheeler. Though later separated by distance, he enjoyed the company of his son as much as possible until his passing in 2019.
Joe met the love of his life, Erin Patrice Moran, and they were married on December 28, 1993 in Las Vegas, NV. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters, one of whom gave him two precious grandchildren that he adored and was tremendously proud of. He was a faithful and loving husband, father, and “Grandude”. He lived to participate in every facet of his girls’ lives, from morning dates to Waffle House, to sharing a love for competitive Judo, and drawing them “doodles” for notes. He was their staunch champion of continued education in preparation of a healthy, happy future. Joe also adored his son-in-law, whom his daughters joke was his favorite child. Joe loved, and was loved by, his family deeply.
Throughout his life, Joe was the epitome of kindness, compassion, hard work, and resilience. A man of many phrases and values, he was “good people” and did “good work.” He loved The History Channel, boba tea runs, and snuggling up to his girls for movie nights. He was never self conscious, and fit into any crowd, anywhere. He had a special place in his heart for kids, whether they were family, friends of his children, or someone he just met. He was very passionate as an instructor for many years at Safe Kids, a self-defense and safety awareness program for kids.
Joe was preceded in death by his father and son. He is survived by his mother, Joy Wilson, of Blanchard, OK; his wife Erin Glimp; their two daughters, Joelle Patricia Ruth (Glimp) Pahl and husband Michael of Plano, TX, and Juliana Georgia Glimp of Norman, OK; two grandchildren, Fitzmichael David Pahl and Olsen Jolie Moran Pahl; three siblings, Jana (Glimp) Hammer, John Glimp, and Julie (Glimp) Sluder and husband Tim; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other loving family members, and friends.
A memorial service for Joe will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Antioch Community Church 1330 E Lindsey St, Norman, OK 73071. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Gray for Glioblastoma.
